Title of Master-Restaurateur

The title of Master Restaurateur officially recognises traditional restaurateurs. It acclaims expertise and good practice.

AFNOR Certification, jointly with the Ministry for SMEs, Commerce and Crafts, proposes an evaluation described in Law No. 2007-1359 of 14 September 2007 concerning the title of Master-Restaurateur and published in the official government journal of 16 September 2007.

The title of Master Restaurateur officially recognises traditional restaurateurs. It acclaims expertise and good practice.

It allows you a tax credit of 50% on expenditure for modernising your restaurant up to a ceiling of 30 000 euros, i.e., a maximum credit of 15 000 euros (for titles of Master Restaurateurs obtained before 31 December 2009).

The law requires an evaluation concerning the following main areas:

Food and drink

Customer relations

Interior lay-out and design

Setting and outdoor facilities (when these exist)

Hygiene, safety and cleanness

After examination of the file and on the basis of an assessment report, the title of Master-Restaurateur is conferred for a period of four years by the Prefect of the Department in which the candidate’s restaurant or main business is listed in the official trade register.
